SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY

In January 2009, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office established a program to deal with the growing population of sexual predators and offenders within Habersham County. The SOR Unit works closely with state and local law enforcement agencies in enforcing the laws and registration requirements of high-risk sexual offenders and predators.

Since its inception, the SOR Unit has been successful in tracking and locating sexual offenders and predators that have absconded from their registration requirements. The SOR Unit is responsible for providing and promoting the community’s awareness of registered sexual offenders and predators living within Habersham County by maintaining and publishing a current list of such offenders and predators. This list is provided to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Sexual Offender Registry and OffenderWatch for publication.

The SOR unit conducts compliance checks within Habersham County to ensure sexual offenders and predators are complying with their registration requirements. SOR Unit Lt. Wesley Welborn is available for events, community meetings, and to assist the community with questions relating to sexual offenders and predators.
